With that in mind, I’d have to agree with what almost everyone is saying, that it would accelerate your production process by learning at least the basics of guitar and by extension any instrument (or at least major instrument family) you’d like to synthetically replicate. While it would be possible to apply theory to generate convincing synthetic performances, it would be a huge challenge. There are techniques and physical characteristics/limitations related to almost every different instrument. I think however, it will be much easier bringing my learned instrumental experience into the device to generate convincing material than simply attempting to replicate the sounds. I’ve found the midi controller “Linnstrument” over the weekend, and it’s sparked my interest. So I’m thinking, do I need to buy all of this stuff again to generate convincing recorded performances? I’m not so sure. This is an interesting question to me as I’m currently getting back into music production after putting it down for about 20 years, and coming at it from a different direction as I’ve studied/practiced/recorded/owned many different instruments, but only own an acoustic guitar and symphonic bass drum (don’t know how that happened) at this time.
